Feeling Embarrassed can Prevent Alzheimer’s
Researchers
have been able to determine that embarrassment is rooted in the pregenual
anterior cingulate cortex — a small bit of tissue in the right hemisphere of
the front part of the brain.
“This
brain region predicted the behavior: embarrassment reaction!”
The
smaller the region, the less embarrassed the people were. The region size may
become smaller due to neurodegenerative diseases; therefore loss of the embarrassment
reaction can help to determine onset of a brain disease. This early detection
offers good therapeutic outcome and prevent widespread brain damage or
progression like critical conditions like Alzheimer’s disease.
A
simple way to test for embarrassment reaction:
1.
Get
an headphone and a recorder
2.
Start
the recorder and sing out aloud the playing song on your headphone
3.
Then
listen with your friends to your own voice without the accompanying music.
The degree of embarrassment depended on how well your brain was
functioning.
Please give us feedback on how your test went.
